“March from Symphonic Metamorphoses” by Hindemith
I can’t listen to the “March” from Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Weber by Paul Hindemith without remembering the honor band clinic I played it at.
There’s this part at the end where it builds up—all the instruments are layering their sound and then, cutting through it all, are these horn parts. When the clinician was trying to get that part to come out, he sang it something like this:
“Louder—and louder—OHMYGOSH!—OHMYGOSH!”
And so, every time, in my head, the horns are screaming. “OHMYGOSH! OHMYGOSH!”
